Riding on the back of winning New Zealand’s “Bird of the Century” vote, Forest & Bird supported the local efforts to conserve the Southern crested grebe / pūteketeke at Lake Wānaka. The conservation project is run by a group of dedicated volunteers who build and manage floating nesting platforms, along with habitat protection, advocacy and education work.
The supporting website is packed full of information about the grebes, the ecology of the lake and other biodiversity. Fantastic photography of the birds and other wildlife features throughout.
